It's The Little Things

It's the little things to be thankful for like my blog followers.

Our first three months this year may have been our hardest yet.  Record snowfall didn't help either.

We lost Joe's brother, Allan, in January.

My Uncle Matt battled Alzheimer's for years and he lost his battle in March.

Skippy Von Beagleman passed away suddenly in my arms in April.  Our little sunshine still brings smiles and tears.  This past week we have been decorating for Christmas and seeing all his stuff has been tough.  His Christmas tree, stockings and all his pictures with Santa.  We had him since he was four months old and it felt like he was taken too soon.

However, as the year went on so did we.  We need to look to the future and just be thankful for what we have....the little things.  We are blessed to have a lovely home in the woods with solitude which allows for our children to have some area to roam.  My family makes the trip up to see us every year and we are thankful we don't need to make that drive.  Our love grows and we are able to give all our love to our 3 wonderful children....Doug E Fresh, Lucy Loo Who and Bille White Shoes.  These little creatures bring us so much joy and looking at their lives makes you think life really isn't that bad.  They are just happy to be in our lives and give us so much in return.  Skippy led us to Lucy and Billie in his own special way.

Operation Write Home completed their mission this year which left me with a bittersweet feeling.  I'm thankful that I was able to find Second Chance to be able to volunteer and also they will accept my cards which is something to be thankful for.  I am also going to do cards for Operation Gratitude and I just need to figure out how to divide my time for both organizations.  I am so happy that our troops are coming home, but I have fear that they may need to go fight again for our freedom....if they do I will be at the ready to make cards.

And now is the time for our Thanksgiving meal.  I have been cooking since yesterday and will continue into the weekend.  As I was preparing for company yesterday Billie was a little terror, but I have learned that her playful ways are what I would miss most about her.  Skippy drove us insane, but I miss that insanity.  Lucy is the complete opposite of Skippy...she is just so much calmer, but has the same amount of love that Skippy had.  Of course, even after 7 months, she is still adjusting.

So the little thing today that I am thankful for:

That photo reflects what we all should have in our lives peace, love and understanding.  It is not often that this two get along, but it does happen here and there.  I think they are so cute holding paws and letting me accomplish some things today.

My family will be here in about 12 hours and the peace will cease, but it just means that they are here because they love us and want to be with us for the holidays.

I hope you can all find gratitude in your hearts and remember that the hard times are a reminder that there will be good times also.

I also ask all of your to remember that you have your freedom because there are some service men and women who will be fighting on Thanksgiving so you can enjoy being free and home with your family.

Happy Thanksgiving one and all.

Making Others Smile

Making others smile is the best thing.  I went out and about today looking for Veterans.  I had written 10 thank you notes for them. I was successful in finding 10 Veterans to give them to.  Last year I handed out 5, 10 this year and maybe next year I can do 20!  Nice to set goals.  Thank You to all Veterans for all your sacrifices.  Enjoy your day.
